The Cocobolo
This tree is known to produce the precious wood called... cocobolo. ;) It is a good-sized tree that reaches 20–25 m in height.
The color of its wood changes after being cut. The heart is usually orange or reddish, often showing irregular dark marks on the wood. The bark is of a creamy yellow tone which contrasts strongly with the orange tone of the heart. It has a fine texture and oily appearance to the eye and to the touch, and is wear and water resistant.
This wood is very hard. Some cocobolo woods are so dense that they sink in water. Due to its density and hardness, it can be polished to a shiny, almost crystal-like finish. Its rarity justifies its price.
It is very popular for billiard cues, as used by the famous London manufacturer John Parris. It is also used to make novelty pens and was used as ballast on ships.
Costa Rica is punctuated by two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season, more or less marked by the region. Here we are in tropical dry, which means: - The dry season is from December to April. The landscape is dry, and resembles the savannah. The trees no longer have leaves, but beautiful flowers. There is no water. It is quite hot and the sun is shining. The nights offer superb starry skies. - The rainy season begins in May until the end of November. Our rivers and waterfalls get full. The landscape offers all shades of green, and everything grows. Nature is flourishing, wild. It is cooler, it rains in the evenings or on certain days. Boots are recommended.
Each season transforms the landscape and its resulting experience.
